PROTECT YOUR DNA WITH QUANTUM TECHNOLOGY
Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Montaro has been a mainstay in Giro’s lineup of mountain bike helmets for the past decade. In that time, it became one of the brand’s best-selling models and has only been updated once. Even then, it didn’t change too much from the original and was arguably in need of a complete overhaul to bring it up to speed. And that’s exactly what Giro has done with the Montaro III, a completely fresh take on its popular half-shell trail helmet.
Keen-eyed observers — or those in markets outside of North America — might have already seen the Montaro III when it launched in Europe and the Asia Pacific markets a couple of weeks ago. Indeed, this new helmet had staggered release dates, but it is finally being launched in the North American market, too. So, for all of you who haven’t seen it yet, here’s Giro’s new Montaro Mips III.

Giro Montaro Mips III Details
The 3rd version of the Montaro has been completely redesigned and resembles its predecessors in name only. That starts with the shell, which includes extended coverage over the temples and around the back of the head. Giro also gave it what appears to be a somewhat more aggressive look with more angular lines that align well with its new product description of “aggressive trail protection.” It comes in four neutral color options, black, white, dark sage, and stone, all of which have a mix of matte and gloss shell panels.

It appears to be a standard in-mold design with EPS foam surrounded by a polycarbonate shell with “oversized vents and deep internal channeling for maximized ventilation.” The Montaro Mips III includes its namesake Mips technology in the form of an Evolve Core liner. Giro states that it meets the CPSC and CE certification standards, and is the brand’s first open-face helmet to earn the newer NTA e-bike certification. At the time of writing, it has not yet been tested by the Virginia Tech Helmet Lab.
The Montaro Mips III comes in three shell sizes, S-L, and includes Giro’s Roc Loc Trail fit adjustment system, which allows riders to customize the fit with the turn of a dial. It has a two-position adjustable visor along with integrated sunglass holders on the front and rear of the helmet. Also at the rear is a strap gripper to keep your goggle strap in place. Rounding out the feature set are the Ionic+ anti-microbial pads and a Fidlock magnetic buckle. All this adds up to a claimed weight of 450 grams in size Medium.

All-New Giro Dropline MTB Goggles
Back in mid-July, Giro quietly released its new Dropline MTB Goggles. The brand claims these were “built from the ground up with feedback, input, and direction from the world’s best gravity riders.” These new goggles include two new patent-pending designs, one of which is a new quick-change lens system, for quick swaps between the VIVID lens and the spare clear lens. The other is the integration of Giro’s DryCore sweat management, which involves a thin silicone bead embedded in the face foam to direct sweat away from the eyes.
Additionally, the outrigger strap design aims to optimize fit and maximize airflow, while the raked design should aid in fit over bike helmets. As a Giro product, it has been optimized to work well with the brand’s full-face models like the Insurgent and Coalition, as well as half-shells like the Manifest Spherical or the new Montaro Mips III. The Dropline comes with a trail-tuned VIVID lens as well as a spare clear lens. They come in black, dark sage, stone, and white.
