Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayEarlier this week, Giant Bicycles unveiled their new limited edition Reign SE at Crankworx Whistler. Whistler is the ideal place to launch such a bike, as this one features a beefed-up build for bike park or aggressive gravity riding. The SE bikes also each come with unique, one-of-a-kind custom paint jobs.
The Reign SE is a very limited-edition bike, as Giant plans to build fewer than 100 of them. These gravity-focused bikes feature a build spec with an aluminum frame, increased suspension travel, MX wheels, plus SRAM’s Eagle 90 mechanical transmission and Maven brakes.
Giant Reign SE – Frame Features:

The Reign SE is only offered with an ALUXX SL aluminum frame. The front and rear triangles are both aluminum, but the frame does feature an Advanced Forged Composite upper rocker arm, which Giant says is lighter, stiffer, and stronger than aluminum.
The SE frame is identical to the normal Reign frame, aside from the custom paint work and increased travel. Standard Reign models are 160mm of travel, and the SE uses a longer stroke shock to gain the extra 5mm. Reign SEs will only be available in frame sizes M/L/XL.

The Reign SEs all get a one-of-a-kind ‘Black Lightning’ paint job. While the colors and overall design are similar, each frame is individually painted, so no two are exactly alike. Giant says after laying down a durable powder coat base, they use a steel wool masking technique to apply the textured look to each.
Key Specs:

The Reign SE provides 165 mm of rear travel, controlled by Giant’s Maestro linkage and a RockShox Vivid Ultimate rear shock. Up front is a long travel, single crown 180mm RockShox Zeb Ultimate fork.
Where the normal Reigns offer 29” or 27.5” rear wheel compatibility, the SE models are built up with MX wheels. The more playful ride and improved tire clearance suit this bike’s rowdy intentions. The SE models ride on Giant’s own TRA WheelSystem alloy rims and Giant MTB hubs. Maxxis supplies the tires, with an Assegai up front and a Minion DHR II in the back. The front tire is an EXO+ casing, the rear is a DoubleDown, and both feature MaxxGrip rubber.

Giant specs the SE bikes with SRAM’s Eagle 90 mechanical drivetrain, and their powerful Maven brakes on 220/200mm rotors.

To carry your ride essentials, the Reign SE frame includes in-frame storage in the down tube. A water-resistant tool bag is included.
The Reign SEs come with Giant’s Contact Switch AT (adjustable travel) dropper posts. Medium frames get 140-170mm posts, while large and XL frames get 170-200mm models.

Other notable gravity-friendly components include an MRP AMG CS chain guide and a wide 800mm Giant Contact TR35 handlebar. The Reign SE frame uses a Boost 148mm rear axle, press-fit 92mm BB, and offers rear tire clearance up to 2.5”.
Geometry:

The Reign SE includes a flip-chip that offers two geometry positions. See the chart above for all the numbers, but at a glance we can see a few things:
First, steering angles are very slack at either 63° or 62.6°! Seat tube angles range from 76.4° to 77.8° depending on frame size and chip position. Giant’s reach numbers are on the short side, with a medium frame coming in at 446/450mm and a large at 466/470mm in their Mid/High positions. Chainstay lengths are the same across the size range, measuring 443/442mm.

Unfortunately for many international riders, the Reign SEs will only be sold in Canada, Germany, and Australia. MSRP is $6499 CAD, or $7999 AUD (Germany pricing TBD).
