The French national basketball team announced on Twitter that they have reduced their preliminary EuroBasket roster to 14 players by cutting three players.

Two of those cuts were NBA players: Ousmane Dieng from the Thunder and Moussa Diabate from the Hornets, along with former lottery pick Frank Ntilikina.

Dieng and Diabate both have important NBA seasons ahead. Dieng, who was the 11th overall pick in 2022, is entering the last year of his rookie contract, which pays him $6.67 million.

Unlike some other 2022 lottery picks like Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren who got big contract extensions, Dieng isn’t expected to get a new deal right now and is mostly focused on keeping his spot on the Thunder’s roster. His contract ends completely after this season.

Diabate will try to build on a strong year with the Hornets to earn a guaranteed contract and a bigger role. His $2.27 million salary for next season isn’t guaranteed yet, and the Hornets might have too many players on the roster.

But since they are a bit short on big men, Diabate could still get plenty of playing time – he averaged 5.7 points and 6.2 rebounds in 17.5 minutes over 71 games last season.

Even after these cuts, France still has many current and former NBA players on the team, like Wizards’ young players Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly, the 2024 No. 1 draft pick Zaccharie Risacher, and former NBA players Theo Maledon, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, and Elie Okobo.

Before the EuroBasket tournament starts later this month, France will need to cut two more players to finalize their 12-player roster.
