Earlier tonight at UFC Vegas 121, Raul Rosas Jr. and Raoni Barcelos delivered a potential Fight of the Year contender after a lackluster co-main event. However, the bout ended in an unfortunate and confusing manner as Barcelos suddenly lost consciousness in the final frame.

Round 1 was competitive from both sides. Both fighters had their moments and bloodied each other up. In the first round, Barcelos managed to take Rosas Jr. down, but even from his back, Rosas Jr. did most of the damage and prevented Barcelos from settling into a dominant position.

Round 2 was more action-packed. Neither fighter showed any signs of slowing down. Barcelos displayed excellent head movement, landed clean combinations, and scored multiple takedowns. Rosas Jr. had his moments as well. The 21-year-old stunned Barcelos with several combinations, and the momentum kept shifting.

In the third round, the slugfest intensified. Barcelos once again scored multiple takedowns. Rosas Jr., on the other hand, briefly secured full mount and landed some damage. However, the Brazilian worked his way back to his feet and scored more takedowns.

The 39-year-old earned Rosas Jr.’s respect with relentless pressure.

In Round 4, Barcelos secured Rosas Jr.’s back and locked in a rear-naked choke. He also bloodied Rosas Jr., but the young gun refused to tap and survived the numerous nasty submission attempts.

In the final round, both fighters continued trading right after the bell. Barcelos scored another takedown, but once again, Rosas Jr. continued doing all the damage despite being taken down.

During the exchanges, Raul Rosas Jr. secured a takedown of his own. As Raoni Barcelos’ head hit the fence, the UFC veteran suddenly went unconscious. The referee immediately stopped the fight.

It was hard to figure out what caused Barcelos to lose consciousness. Even the replay did not solve the puzzle.

Barcelos was immediately placed on a stretcher and taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

Official decison: Raul Rosas Jr. defeated Raoni Barcelos in Round 5 (1:38) by KO at UFC Vegas 121.
