Earlier tonight at UFC Shanghai, Umar Nurmagomedov was knocked out cold for the first time in his career by China’s Song Yadong.
In the second round of this bantamweight contest, Song, after stuffing 2 takedown attempts, caught Umar with a well-placed uppercut to the side of Umar’s head that knocked the Dagestani fighter out cold. “Kung Fu Kid” followed up with three more hammerfists on an already unconscious Umar before the referee stepped in to stop the fight.
Check out the finish below:
Here's a better angle of Song Yadong's KO punch. You can clearly see it landing where the neck intersects with the upper traps. He doesn't hit Umar's head at all but in the cervicothoracic junction. A lot of major blood vessels and specialized nerve pathways pass directly… https://t.co/uA6n4VkSra

As soon as Umar was sent to the shadow realm, his brother Usman Nurmagomedov jumped into the octagon to check on him. Meanwhile, Song Yadong was celebrating by running laps around the cage, and the two collided as Usman rushed towards Umar.
Check out the incident below:
Another angle of the Usman Nurmagomedov elbow incident
From this angle, it looks like he was just rushing toward Umar, who had fallen down, and almost collided with Song Yadong 🤔 pic.twitter.com/ow5SfnWjbj
It appeared to be nothing more than a concerned brother rushing to check on his sibling after a brutal knockout. While some angles may make it seem as though Usman stormed into the octagon and elbowed Song, the situation looked far more like a brother coming to the aid of his fallen brother ASAP.
The rest is for viewers and readers to decide.
Are we going to talk about how Usman tried to storm the cage and attack Yadong after he rendered his cousin unconscious? Again, Dana White letting the Dagestanis do whatever they want. WTF. pic.twitter.com/5A1o58gA0D

Umar Nurmagomedov was on a two-fight winning streak before the Song Yadong knockout loss, and a win this weekend at UFC Shanghai could have brought him much closer to earning a second title shot.

At least, that’s what fighters often do after such brutal knockout losses.
After his second professional MMA defeat, Umar has shared a message with his fans and followers. He posted on Instagram:
“Everything is fine with me. Alhamdulillah. Thank you so much to everyone who writes. I will work on the mistakes. And I will be back.” [Translated]
