Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Boston Celtics are having trouble moving Anfernee Simons’ contract as they continue to explore trade options this offseason.
Fast Break Journal reported that Boston entered the summer looking to shed salary and has struggled to find a team willing to take on the 26-year-old guard’s deal. The organization acquired Simons on July 7 in the Jrue Holiday trade and has kept him on the market since.
Simons is entering the final season of his four-year, $100 million contract, which could make him an appealing rental for a contender. However, matching his $24 million salary in a trade has proved challenging for several potential suitors.
NBA insider Jake Fischer wrote on Marc Stein’s Substack, The Stein Line, that Boston is expected to keep Simons available in discussions through the February 5, 2026 trade deadline. The Celtics are open to offers but have yet to gain traction on a deal.
Simons has been a consistent offensive weapon throughout his career, averaging 15 points and 3.3 assists per game over seven seasons. Last year with Portland, he posted 19.3 points and 4.8 assists per contest before being traded to Boston.
Despite his scoring ability, Simons has limited postseason experience, appearing in 15 playoff games without a start. He has averaged 4.7 points in those appearances, mostly coming off the bench.
Boston’s willingness to part with Simons stems from both salary cap concerns and a crowded backcourt rotation. The team already has established guards who handle heavy minutes, making it difficult to find a defined role for him.
