League insiders compared the situation to the Clippers’ 2019 acquisition of Paul George, which helped secure Kawhi Leonard in free agency. However, the circumstances were different this time.

Wizards president Michael Winger, who previously helped negotiate that blockbuster deal while with the Clippers, was believed to hold considerable leverage if Golden State had pursued Davis.

Instead, the Warriors chose not to make an offer, and Washington reportedly had no intention of moving the veteran forward.
