The Cleveland Cavaliers are continuing to show interest in adding forward depth for their roster. The Cavs have been linked to unrestricted free agents DeMar DeRozan and Jonathan Kuminga, as well as Denver Nuggets restricted free agent Peyton Watson.

Adding DeRozan would seem the simplest move forward for Cleveland. DeRozan is already being paid $10 million for this season after being waived by the Sacramento Kings. The veteran wing could be in play for the Cavaliers for something in the range of the veteran minimum through a portion of the Non-Taxpayer MLE.

Adding Kuminga or Watson could necessitate a sign-and-trade agreement. Kuminga is reportedly looking for a contract in the range of $15-20 million, which is outside what Cleveland can offer, while still re-signing James Harden under what would become a first-apron hard cap. The Cavs also can't craft an offer sheet for Watson that the Nuggets wouldn't match, meaning that would have to be a sign-and-trade.

The Cavaliers could offer Max Strus or Dennis Schroder as a salary-matching component of a sign-and-trade, but the Nuggets have tax and apron issues. The Hawks are also already over the regular season roster limits, and just below the luxury tax line for next season.

Cleveland themselves has their own tax and apron issues. The Cavs are expected to re-sign Harden, but that deal has held off for now. That's allowing the Cavaliers front office to explore other avenues to add talent, while figuring out how to fit Harden's next deal in under a potential hard cap at the first or second apron.
