Florida head coach Todd Golden signed a one-year extension earlier this month that increases the total value of his contract to $49.5 million over six seasons, making him the second-highest-paid basketball coach in the SEC. The deal averages $8.25 million annually and runs through the 2031-32 season.

Golden's salary for next season rises from $6 million to $7.5 million, with $300,000 annual raises leading to a final-year salary of $9 million. Only Kansas' Bill Self, UConn's Dan Hurley and Arkansas' John Calipari are set to earn more than Golden next season, while new North Carolina coach Michael Malone will match his $7.5 million figure.

The contract is nearly fully guaranteed, with Florida owing Golden 85 percent of the remaining value if he is fired without cause. His buyout to leave the school starts at $16 million next season and decreases annually, reaching $1 million by the final year of the deal. Golden's NBA buyout is considerably lower, beginning at $3 million next season before dropping to $1 million by 2029-30.

Golden's compensation package includes a $500,000 annual longevity incentive, a $100,000 expense account, and additional performance bonuses tied to SEC championships, NCAA tournament appearances and academic progress benchmarks.

The extension makes Golden the highest-paid coach at Florida, surpassing first-year football coach Jon Sumrall's $7.45 million average annual salary.

Golden has built a 103-41 record across four seasons at Florida, highlighted by a 36-4 campaign in 2024-25 that culminated in the program's third national championship. Florida enters this season as the betting favorite to repeat, returning nearly 82 percent of its scoring production from last year, including key contributors Rueben Chinyelu, Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh.

Golden joined Florida in 2022 following three seasons at the University of San Francisco. Golden has now received a contract extension in each of the past three years, with his salary climbing from an initial deal to $4.1 million after his second season, then to $6 million last year before this month's increase.
