The Minnesota Timberwolves are trading Josh Green and cash to the Utah Jazz for Cody Williams and John Konchar, Shams Charania reported. Minnesota is expected to keep Williams and waive-and-stretch Konchar, with the move creating the salary flexibility needed to complete Jonathan Kuminga’s signing.

Green’s $14.7 million salary was the key financial component of the deal. Moving his contract gives Minnesota the room to remain below the NBA’s second salary-cap apron while completing the two-year agreement with Kuminga.

The 25-year-old Green spent the 2025-26 season with Charlotte, averaging 4.3 points in 15.7 minutes over 58 games. He shot 45.9% from the field and 42.0% from three-point range, continuing a career that includes 349 games and 129 starts.

Green’s role had declined significantly from 2024-25, when he started 67 of 68 games and averaged 7.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 27.8 minutes. He shot 39.1% from three that season and entered Utah with a reputation as a perimeter defender and low-volume shooting option.

Minnesota receives Williams, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, after two seasons with Utah. Williams improved from 4.6 points and 32.3% shooting as a rookie to 8.8 points on 46.8% shooting in 67 games during 2025-26, including 41 starts.

Williams also averaged 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists last season, although his three-point shooting remained a weakness at 21.4%. Across his first two NBA seasons, he has averaged 7.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting 41.9% overall and 23.7% from three.

Konchar, 30, appeared in 56 games between Memphis and Utah last season, averaging 4.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.9 minutes. He shot 47.2% from the field but just 28.3% from three, and Minnesota is expected to waive and stretch his contract rather than retain him.

The trade continues Minnesota’s aggressive roster construction around Anthony Edwards. The Timberwolves went 49-33 and finished sixth in the Western Conference last season before losing to the eventual Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs 4-2 in the semifinals.

Edwards averaged 28.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 61 regular-season games. With Green’s salary removed and Kuminga expected to join the roster, Minnesota can move forward with a projected core featuring LaMelo Ball, Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Kuminga and Rudy Gobert.

For Utah, the transaction adds Green as a more experienced wing after the Jazz finished 22-60 last season, 15th in the Western Conference. The Jazz are acquiring a player with 129 career starts and a 38.7% career three-point percentage while Minnesota turns Green’s contract into both financial flexibility and a developmental opportunity in Williams.
