Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayJustin Martinez of The Oklahoman highlights that the Oklahoma City Thunder’s most significant roster decision next summer will revolve around the $28.5 million team option for center Isaiah Hartenstein, as he discusses in a recent mailbag column.
While there remains a possibility that Hartenstein could negotiate a new contract with a lower average annual value, Martinez points out the challenging financial choices the Thunder face.
Re-signing Hartenstein could come at a considerable cost, potentially forcing the team to part ways with key contributors Luguentz Dort and Kenrich Williams, who both have team options valued at $17.7 million and $7.2 million, respectively.
Over the past season, Dort averaged 10.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while providing tough perimeter defense.
Williams contributed with 6.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, often bringing energy and versatility off the bench.
Given Hartenstein’s larger salary and his averages of 11.2 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, Martinez believes the Thunder are most likely to let him go to manage their salary cap more effectively.
The decision will weigh production against cost as the team looks to balance talent retention with financial flexibility.
