Detroit Pistons forward Ausar Thompson has secured a major long-term commitment from the franchise following an impressive defensive season.

Thompson has agreed to a five-year, $155 million rookie-scale contract extension with Detroit, according to sources. The entire deal is fully guaranteed, keeping the former No. 5 overall pick under contract for the foreseeable future.

The extension follows a season in which Thompson established himself among the NBA’s top defenders. He finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting while leading the league in steals per game.

Thompson also recorded 215 combined steals and blocks, the third-highest total in the NBA last season. Since being selected fifth overall in the 2023 draft, he is one of only three players to accumulate at least 300 steals and 150 blocks.

The agreement also creates NBA history for Ausar and his twin brother, Amen Thompson. They become the first pair of brothers to each secure contracts worth at least $100 million.

Together, the Thompson twins have agreed to contracts totaling $363 million this offseason, securing their long-term futures with their respective franchises.
