The International Skating Union (ISU) has published Communication No. 2818, outlining the entry quotas, Combined Total Elements Scores (CTES), and entry deadlines for the 2027 ISU Figure Skating and Synchronized Skating Championships.

Dated August 24, 2026, the communication establishes which ISU Members are entitled to enter multiple skaters, pairs, or ice dance teams at the 2027 championships. In addition, it sets the minimum technical score requirements athletes must meet to participate in the senior and junior international championships.

2027 European Championships

Several countries have earned the right to enter more than one competitor, pair, or ice dance couple at the 2027 ISU European Figure Skating Championships.

In the men’s event, Estonia, Georgia and Italy have the maximum allocation of three entries, while Czechia, Israel, Latvia, Slovakia, Switzerland and Ukraine may each enter two competitors.

Men

Meanwhile, Belgium and Italy have three women’s entries, while Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Poland and Switzerland have two.

Pair Skating

In pair skating, Georgia and Germany have three entries apiece. Czechia, France, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Switzerland may each enter two pairs.

Ice Dance

For ice dance, France has three entries, while Czechia, Finland, Georgia, Great Britain, Italy, Lithuania and Spain have two.

2027 Four Continents Championships

The 2027 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships will have open entries. Each eligible ISU Member may enter a maximum of three entries in each event.

2027 World Junior Championships

The ISU has also announced the countries entitled to enter multiple competitors, pairs and ice dance couples at the 2027 ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships.

Men

At the junior level, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the USA have three men’s entries. Belgium, Germany and New Zealand may each enter two.

Women

For the women’s event, Japan has three entries, while Australia, China, Georgia, Israel, the Republic of Korea, Switzerland and the USA have two.

Pair Skating

In pairs, Canada, China and the USA have three entries apiece. France, Italy and Ukraine may each enter two pairs.

Ice Dance

Similarly, France, Italy and the USA have three ice dance entries. Austria, Canada, Czechia, Germany and Ukraine have two.

2027 World Championships

At the 2027 ISU World Figure Skating Championships, Japan and the USA will have three entries in both the men’s and women’s events, while France will also have three men’s entries.

Men

For the men’s event, France, Japan and the USA have three entries. Canada, Estonia, Italy and Switzerland may each enter two competitors.

Women

In the women’s event, Japan and the USA have three entries, while Belgium, Estonia, Georgia, Italy and the Republic of Korea have two.

Pair Skating

For pairs, Georgia and Germany have three entries apiece. Armenia, Canada, China, Hungary, Japan, Switzerland and the USA may each enter two pairs.

Ice Dance

Meanwhile, Canada, France and the USA have three ice dance entries. Czechia, Georgia, Great Britain, Lithuania and Spain have two.

Combined Total Elements Score Requirements

Skaters and couples participating in the 2027 ISU Figure Skating Championships must have reached the required Combined Total Elements Score during the ongoing 2026/27 season or the immediately preceding 2025/26 season.

2027 World Junior Championships

The Combined Total Elements Score is calculated by adding a skater’s or couple’s highest Technical Elements Score in the Short Program or Rhythm Dance to the highest Technical Elements Score in the Free Skating or Free Dance. These two scores may be achieved at different competitions.

For the senior ISU Championships, the required CTES can only be obtained at Senior International Competitions. Likewise, athletes seeking to compete at the ISU World Junior Championships must achieve the required scores at International Junior Competitions.

In addition, the minimum technical score must be achieved 28 days before the first day, or first official practice day, of the championship concerned. This date also serves as the entry deadline.

The ISU Council reserves the right to adjust the CTES requirements if the number of entries based on the announced scores is significantly higher or lower than expected. ISU Members will be informed no later than 45 days before the entry deadline if the required score is adjusted.

2027 Synchronized Skating Championships

At the 2027 ISU Synchronized Skating World Championships, Canada, Finland, Germany, Italy and the USA will each have the right to enter two teams.

Meanwhile, Canada, Finland, Poland, Sweden and the USA will each be entitled to enter two teams at the 2027 ISU Synchronized Skating World Junior Championships.

Synchronized Skating CTES Requirements

The Combined Total Elements Score for synchronized skating is calculated by adding the team’s highest Technical Elements Score in the Short Program and Free Skating. These scores may be achieved at different competitions.

For the Synchronized Skating World Championships, the required CTES can only be obtained at Senior International Competitions. Meanwhile, the required scores for the World Junior Championships can only be obtained at International Junior Competitions.

As with figure skating, the minimum technical score must be achieved 28 days before the first day of the championship concerned.

Synchro9 to Make World Championship Debut

The 2026/27 season will mark the official debut of Synchro9 at the world championship level.

For the 2027 Synchro9 World Championships, nine ISU Members will qualify for one entry, while the host Member will automatically receive an entry.

At the 2027 Synchro9 Junior World Championships, six ISU Members will qualify for one entry. Once again, the host Member will automatically receive an entry.

Notably, there will be no minimum CTES for the inaugural Synchro9 World Championships. Following the results of the 2026/27 season, the Synchronized Skating Technical Committee will determine the CTES requirement for the 2027/28 season.

Entry Deadlines

For singles, pair skating and ice dance, entries by name must reach both the ISU Office and the Organizing Committee simultaneously 28 days before the first day of the championship, defined as the first official practice day.

For synchronized skating, team entries must reach the ISU Office and the Organizing Committee simultaneously 28 days before the first day of the championship, defined as the opening and first draws.

The names of all team skaters, including alternates, may be finalized at the time of registration.

The exact deadlines will be issued in the Official Announcement for each ISU Championship.

The ISU also reminded Members that post entries may only be accepted by the ISU President in clearly and truly exceptional circumstances.

The participation of Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN) at the 2027 ISU Championships, including eligibility, entry procedures and applicable deadlines, is governed separately by ISU Communication 2804.

2027 Championship Season Takes Shape

With the publication of Communication No. 2818, the ISU has established the entry framework and technical score requirements for the major figure skating and synchronized skating championships of the 2026/27 season.

As a result, national federations and athletes now have a clearer picture of the entry opportunities and technical benchmarks for the upcoming championship season.

Meanwhile, the introduction of Synchro9 will add a new world championship event to the synchronized skating calendar during the 2026/27 season.
