Nottingham Forest continue to await the outcome of talks with Man City as the Elliot Anderson story moves towards its conclusion, but that isn't to say they're not planning incomings of their own.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a switch to the Etihad Stadium for several weeks.

Reports from multiple sources have suggested City have made Anderson one of their priority midfield targets, with talks between the two clubs understood to be progressing.

The club are aware that Anderson is one of their most valuable assets and any sale would command a significant fee, which some media sources relay at least £120m as a base fee.

Should a deal eventually be completed, it would represent the largest transfer in Forest's history.

The potential departure has naturally increased speculation regarding possible replacements too.

Forest have already been linked with several midfield targets during the current window, with Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi among the players reportedly under consideration.

Italian reports have claimed Forest made fresh contact with the player's representatives and have explored the possibility of bringing him to the City Ground.

The club have also been connected with a number of younger talents from across Europe as recruitment staff continue assessing options.

Forest's strategy this summer has focused on balancing potential departures with players capable of making an immediate impact, and that approach has become even more important with uncertainty surrounding Anderson's future.

Any funds generated from a possible sale would strengthen Forest's position in the market.

The club have therefore continued examining a variety of midfield profiles, and one name has emerged as a serious possibility.

Nottingham Forest frontrunners to sign Lucas Bergvall from Tottenham

According to talkSPORT journalist Ben Jacobs, Nottingham Forest are among the leading candidates to sign Lucas Bergvall.

The Tottenham midfielder has become available after reportedly expressing a desire to leave north London, and that development has created interest from several clubs monitoring the player's situation.

Jacobs reports that Forest are currently positioned among the strongest contenders in the race.

Chelsea and Aston Villa are both understood to have checked on Bergvall's situation in the past. However, neither club is currently pursuing a move.

That leaves Forest in a favourable position should they decide to progress discussions, but they will have to stump up a large portion of the Anderson cash with Bergvall valued at up to £50 million.

Bergvall remains one of the most highly regarded young midfielders in Europe.

The Sweden international joined Tottenham amid considerable competition for his signature, with Spurs beating Barcelona to the 20-year-old's signature after sealing an £8.5m deal with Djurgardens in 2024.

His arrival was viewed as a major coup at the time.

Since then, he has continued his development while adapting to life in English football. Despite his potential, opportunities have not always been consistent.

The latest reports indicate the player is now looking at options elsewhere, especially considering the Lilywhites are after both Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes to bolster Roberto De Zerbi's midfield.

Forest's interest comes at a time when midfield recruitment is becoming increasingly important, with Anderson potentially Man City-bound and Vitor Pereira in need of a proven replacement.
