There has been an acceptance at Liverpool that business will take time whilst Andoni Iraola evaluates his new squad and the World Cup reaches a conclusion, but that's unlikely to stop them from signing players who are already out of the tournament.

The Reds have been watching and waiting for the chance to advance their interest in Gilbero Mora and have now opened talks to secure his signature following Mexico's World Cup exit on Sunday.

Mora was one of the youngest players at the World Cup. He's still just 17 years old and rumours are coming thick and fast over Liverpool's interest. The natural progression for that interest is an informal approach, as reports have claimed.

For a player his age, Mora won't come cheap. Club Tijuana have reportedly set an asking price worth €21.3m (£18m), which would make him one of the most expensive U18 players in Premier League history.

The teenager didn't just feature for Mexico at the World Cup, he played an important role as a versatile, attacking midfielder. Not many will be surprised about that, however, after he was described as "one of the most exciting Mexican talents" that scout Jacek Kulig has ever seen.

The battle is on between Liverpool, Real Madrid and others. Whoever wins the race to sign Mora could have a generational talent on their hands.

Mora is one to watch as the rumours continue to surround his future. Whether it's Real Madrid, Liverpool or another club who win the race for his signature remains to be seen, however.

Liverpool launch approach to sign Mora

According to El Universal in Mexico, as relayed by Sport Witness, Liverpool have launched an approach to sign Mora from Tijuana this summer.

Anfield chiefs have commenced both club-to-club contact and contact with the young midfielder's representatives. The Mexican club are set to demand around €21.3m (£18m) to sell their teenage prodigy.

It's currently Liverpool who have taken the biggest steps towards his arrival amid fear of a hijack from Real Madrid, who have been a thorn in Liverpool's side for far too long.

Mora's arrival would end Harvey Elliott's Liverpool career

If there's one player who could do without the arrival of a young attacking midfielder, it's Harvey Elliott.

The writing has been on the wall for his Liverpool career for some time and Mora's arrival would be the nail in the coffin.

Whilst it's difficult to judge Elliott after a season on loan watching from Aston Villa's reserves, Mora is someone with far clearer potential at this stage. Add on the fact that the current Liverpool man can be sold as a homegrown asset and the end looks even more likely.

Dubbed "phenomenal" by scout Jacek Kulig, Mora looks set to be one of the most in-demand teenagers in the market this summer.
