Michael Page wishes his split from UFC wasn’t as cold as it ended up being.

The final fight of Page’s deal with the top MMA promotion took place in early September on the UFC Paris card. Going into the bout, many had questions over whether or not Page would remain with the promotion even if he pulled off the win. Page ended up defeating Nursulton Ruziboev in a forgettable three-round affair via unanimous decision.

UFC CEO Dana White told media members that the matchmakers decided they didn’t want to work with Page going forward, so he will not be re-signed. Appearing on “The Ariel Helwani Show,” Page admitted that he didn’t expect to get the cold shoulder having gone 5-1 under the UFC banner (via MMAJunkie).

“I had goals to achieve and regardless of anything, I was winning my fights, which says to me you get to stay,” Page said. “That’s the premise of this game, is success should breed more opportunities. So I still felt like we’ll sit down at the table.

“I felt what may happen is they just say, ‘Look, we can re-sign you, but it’s going to be a lot less (money),’ and we work from there. But I wouldn’t have expected it to be dealt with in a way that it was dealt with. I found that quite disrespectful, to be fair.”

Page said he wouldn’t be as down about the situation if the UFC higher-ups had simply given him a call to tell him that they wouldn’t be working together moving forward. Page also spoke highly of the UFC staff behind the scenes.

While the relationship between Page and UFC wasn’t exactly tumultuous, “MVP” did express frustration over how he was being booked. Many fans questioned UFC matchmakers after Page was matched up against Sam Patterson back in March. That was another uneventful decision win for “Venom.”
