Luka Doncic is leaving Slovenia behind as his attention turns toward the start of another season with the Los Angeles Lakers, but the trip back to the United States comes with a difficult personal separation.

During his time at home, Doncic was able to spend time with his daughters, Gabriela and Olivia. They will stay in Slovenia with his former fiancée, Anamarie Goltes, while the Lakers guard resumes his NBA responsibilities in Los Angeles.

Doncic marked the end of that time together by posting a collection of family photos on Instagram. His message centered on remaining emotionally connected to his daughters regardless of the distance between them.

“G+O, no matter where in the world your daddy is. No day passes when you wouldn’t be in my heart. Wherever I go, you are always with me. I love you! ❤️ ❤️”.

His personal life has undergone significant changes over the past year following the end of his relationship with Goltes. A child-support petition involving their two children was filed earlier in the year before Goltes requested its dismissal in August.

With Goltes based in Slovenia and the two sharing custody, Doncic’s NBA schedule now places him thousands of miles away from his children for extended periods.

The 27-year-old will soon be back around the Lakers as preparations for the new campaign intensify.

His return to Los Angeles therefore represents more than the beginning of another basketball season, as it also brings another stretch of managing fatherhood from afar.
