Kevin Durant expressed excitement about the possibility of former teammate Russell Westbrook signing with the Houston Rockets. Speaking on Up & Adams, Durant said, “Russ is a legend, and I think he deserves to be in the NBA right now. I think he deserves to walk out of the NBA on his terms. So yeah, that’ll be dope.”

Westbrook, 36, remains a free agent after declining his $3.4 million player option in June. He underwent right-hand surgery in May to repair multiple ligament tears, delaying his return to NBA action.

Durant and Westbrook shared several seasons together in Oklahoma City, forming one of the league’s most dynamic duos. Westbrook’s career includes nine All-Star appearances, an MVP award in 2017, and career averages of 21.2 points and eight assists per game.

Houston has already solidified a core including Durant, Tari Eason, Jabari Smith Jr., and Alperen Sengun. Adding Westbrook would bring veteran experience and playmaking to the roster, potentially easing pressure on the team’s younger guards, especially with Fred VanVleet missing the season due to an ACL injury.

Westbrook’s last full season was with Denver, where he averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in 27.9 minutes over 75 games. Despite recent injuries, his competitive drive and leadership remain highly regarded.
