Poland will have to compete in EuroBasket 2025 without Jeremy Sochan, after the forward was sidelined by a calf injury.

The Polish Basketball Federation released a statement from Sochan confirming he will miss the tournament. “I’m very disappointed, but due to a calf injury, I unfortunately won’t be able to play for Poland at this year’s EuroBasket,” Sochan said. He added that doctors expect him to be fully recovered before the San Antonio Spurs’ NBA training camp.

Sochan, 22, has been a key piece for the Spurs since entering the league in 2022. This past season, he has averaged 11.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while shooting a career-best 53.5% from the field.

Poland, who will host Group D in Katowice, face a challenging path without Sochan. They are grouped with France, Slovenia, Belgium, Iceland, and Israel. The top four teams will advance to the knockout stage in Riga, where potential opponents could include Spain, Serbia, or Germany depending on the Group A standings.

Poland’s EuroBasket campaign will begin on August 28 against Slovenia, followed by matchups with Israel, Iceland, France, and Belgium. Hosting the group stage was expected to give them a home-court boost, but losing their NBA starter could alter expectations.

Sochan emphasized his commitment to the national team despite the setback, thanking his teammates, coaches, and fans for their support. He said he would continue to support Poland from the sidelines during the competition.

The tournament’s final phase will be held in Riga, Latvia, from September 10–14.
