There hasn’t been an official injury update on Celtics star Jayson Tatum recently, but his recent public appearances have offered a hopeful glimpse into his recovery, reports Matty Wasserman of The Boston Globe.
This week, Tatum was seen moving around with relative ease during two separate events: first, he paid a visit to the New England Patriots’ training camp on Wednesday, then he joined Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla the following day at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new early education center.
Tatum, who underwent surgery after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in the playoff game on May 12, didn’t take any questions from the media or comment on his current health status during these outings.
Nonetheless, Celtics team president Rich Gotham expressed optimism about the forward’s rehabilitation progress.
“He’s gone from walking around in a boot and just kind of wiggling his toes to, as you see him today, he’s walking around a little more freely,” Gotham told reporters.
“That’s obviously very encouraging to all of us at the Celtics … These are all little milestones in what has been a pretty grueling process for him. But it’s great to see him out at something like this.”
When asked about the possibility of Tatum returning to play before the end of the season if medically cleared, Gotham declined to speculate but praised Tatum’s determination.
“What I know about JT is that he’s going to do everything he can to put us in the position to make a decision,” he said.
