NAGOYA, Japan – Expect more fireworks as action in the men’s volleyball competition heats up, beginning with the quarterfinal round at the 20thb Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya in two venues.
However, all eyes will be on the intriguing match between India and Pakistan, who have produced heated but highly entertaining matches in the past.
Game time is set 10 a.m. at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park, with India out to sustain its amazing streak after completing a three-game sweep of Pool C. Pakistan, on the other hand, finished second behind sentimental favorite Japan in Pool A.
Iran, which topped Pool B after a dramatic come-from-behind win over Indonesia, battles Pool D second placer South Korea at 1 p.m.
Iran, which finished runner-up behind Japan in the recent AVC Continental Cup, is aiming to extend reign in the continental showpiece to four editions.
Also worth watching is the match between Japan and Qatar at 7:20 p.m. while Pool D topnotcher China takes on Thailand.
On account of Iran’s five-set win over Indonesia, Thailand clinched the last quarterfinal berth in the continental showpiece.
The loss relegated Indonesia to the classification round, where it will face the Philippines, with the latter still in search of its first win. Game is set 7 p.m. at the Park Arena Komaki.
All classification round matches will be held in Komaki with Kazakhstan kicking off the four-game schedule against Hong Kong China at 10 a.m. before Chinese-Taipei takes on Kyrgyzstan at 1p.m.
Clashing at 4 p.m. are Vietnam and Uzbekistan.
