World ParaVolley has appointed three experienced international volleyball officials to lead key commissions supporting the continued development of its Standing disciplines.

Jeff Brehaut has been appointed Head of the Event Management Commission (Standing), Greg Thompson will lead both the Referee Commission (Standing) and Rules of the Game Commission (Standing), while Barry “Baz” Wadmeier takes on the role of Head of the Technical Officials Commission (Standing).

The appointments bring extensive experience from volleyball, beach volleyball and international event delivery into World ParaVolley at an important stage in the development of Standing Volleyball and, in particular, Beach ParaVolley.

Jeff Brehaut – Head of Event Management Commission

Brehaut brings more than 50 years of involvement in volleyball and beach volleyball to his new role and sees significant potential for the continued development of World ParaVolley’s Standing disciplines.

“Being involved with Volleyball and Beach Volleyball for over 50 years, I believe that now being able to work in this area gives me the opportunity to use my knowledge and expertise to help grow the WPV Standing sports to a higher level,” Brehaut said.

With particular momentum around Standing Beach ParaVolley, Brehaut believes there is an opportunity both to develop the discipline and introduce more athletes to the wider ParaVolley community.

“At this moment of time, with the emphasis on Beach ParaVolley Standing, I feel the sport is in a unique position to grow fast and bring other athletes into the WPV Family. I look forward to helping in this process to be able to realise the potential of this sport.”

Greg Thompson – Head of Referee Commission and Rules of the Game Commission

Thompson brings around 20 years of combined international Beach Volleyball and Beach ParaVolley refereeing experience to his two new leadership roles.

His responsibilities will focus on two areas fundamental to the sport’s continued development: strengthening refereeing and supporting the evolution and application of the Rules of the Game.

“Coming from a background of international Beach Volleyball and Beach ParaVolley refereeing over a combined period of 20 years, I feel privileged to take on these two new leadership roles within World ParaVolley,” Thompson said.

“I believe they provide a great platform to use my experience and knowledge to best support the continued development of both refereeing and the Rules of the Game, particularly as Beach ParaVolley continues great strides to establish itself internationally.”

Thompson also highlighted the importance of working collaboratively with officials and World ParaVolley’s membership as the discipline develops.

“At this important stage in the development of Beach ParaVolley, the sport has enormous potential to grow and attract even more participants into the WPV family. I’m keen to work with colleagues, referees and member federations around the world to help develop the rules, officiating structures and development pathways needed to support that growth and to help realise the potential of Beach ParaVolley as one of the two primary disciplines within World ParaVolley.”

Barry “Baz” Wadmeier – Head of Technical Officials Commission

Wadmeier brings nearly 30 years of experience across Beach Volleyball, indoor volleyball and international sporting events.

He has served as an FIVB Beach Volleyball Technical Delegate since 2022 and became a Volleyball World Event Operations Team Member in 2026. His previous roles have also included Head of Beach Volleyball Events for Volleyball Australia and CEO of Volleyball New South Wales.

As Head of the Technical Officials Commission (Standing), Wadmeier will focus on developing and empowering officials within the World ParaVolley ecosystem, supporting effective event delivery and helping Technical Delegates apply regulations consistently through experience, understanding and teamwork.

Building capacity for the future

Together, the appointments strengthen the specialist leadership supporting World ParaVolley’s Standing disciplines across event management, refereeing, rules and technical officiating.

The new Commission Heads will work with colleagues, officials and member organisations across the World ParaVolley community as the structures and pathways supporting Standing Volleyball and Beach ParaVolley continue to develop.
