Dean Wilson has broken his shoulder in a heavy crash during training. The Brit was launched over the handlebars of his motorcycle after his chain came off. Wilson, who is currently second in the FIM World Supercross Championship, will see a specialist on Friday for further examinations to determine the expected recovery period.

Wilson was in the final stages of his training session when things went wrong. With just one and a half laps remaining, he jumped a triple onto a tabletop. Shortly afterwards, his chain came off and he was thrown violently over the handlebars.

The crash ultimately resulted in a broken shoulder. Considering the impact, Wilson realizes that the consequences could have been much more serious.

Dean Wilson: “Yesterday was a scary day. Everything was going great on the track and I had one and a half laps left before I was finished. Unfortunately, my chain came off after I jumped a triple onto a tabletop and I was thrown hard over the handlebars. My shoulder is broken and I have to say I’m lucky that’s all that happened.”

Wilson will be examined by a specialist on Friday. Only after that assessment will it become clear how long he will be sidelined and what impact the injury will have on the remainder of his schedule.

The timing is particularly unfortunate. Wilson says he was feeling strong and is currently second in the FIM World Supercross Championship. He was also looking forward to competing in the Australian Supercross Championship.

“I’m really gutted because I felt like I was in a good position. I’m second in the WSX championship and was really looking forward to the Australian Supercross. But we’ll have to wait and see how things go.”

Wilson also thanked everyone who has reached out to him following his crash. More information about his injury and a possible return is expected after his examination by the specialist.
