After waiving RJ Luis on Wednesday, the Boston Celtics are preparing to convert Ron Harper Jr.’s contract to a two-way deal, according to agent Drew Gross, who spoke to Shams Charania of ESPN.
Harper is currently signed on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract. Under NBA rules, Exhibit 10 deals can be converted into two-way contracts up until the deadline next Monday, which is one day before the regular season tips off.
Standing at 6’6″, Harper spent most of last season in the G League, where he put up strong numbers. Across 37 total games split between the Motor City Cruise and the Maine Celtics, he averaged 16.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.9 steals in 29.6 minutes per game.
He also shot an impressive 38.6% from beyond the arc while taking 8.2 three-point attempts per contest, showing his ability to stretch the floor.
This preseason, Harper has played in three games with Boston, averaging 4.3 points, 1.0 assist, and 0.7 rebounds in 10.6 minutes per outing.
Although he has appeared in just 11 NBA regular season games from 2022 to 2025, Harper technically has three years of league service, since he logged at least one appearance in each of those seasons.
Because of that, this will be his final year eligible for a two-way contract, meaning the upcoming deal will cover only this season and he’ll become a free agent again in 2026.
Boston’s other two-way spots are currently held by 2025 second-round picks Amari Williams and Max Shulga.
