Zurdo Ramirez Set to Smash Dorticos and Call Out Jake Paul — Mexican Pride Meets Cuban Power in Anaheim War LIVE on DAZN.

Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez returns to the ring this Saturday, June 28, defending his WBA and WBO cruiserweight titles against Cuban puncher Yuniel Dorticos. The fight takes place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.

Ramirez is chasing full unification at 200 lbs, with names like Jai Opetaia and Badou Jack on his radar. There’s also growing talk of a possible Jake Paul fight down the line — assuming Paul gets through Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in the main event.

Zurdo Ramirez: On a Mission for All the Belts

Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) has quietly built momentum since moving up to cruiserweight in 2023. He’s picked up three wins in the division — stopping Arsen Goulamirian, beating Joe Smith Jr., and edging out Chris Billam-Smith last November in Riyadh in a tough 12-round decision.

He comes into Saturday’s fight focused and confident.

“The goal is still the same — becoming undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world,” Ramirez said this week. “I’ve trained like I would for any fight, and I’ve never taken an opportunity for granted.”

Yuniel Dorticos: Big Power, One Last Shot

Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs) isn’t new to the big stage. A former IBF and WBA world champion, the 39-year-old Cuban earned his title shot by winning three straight, working his way back into the WBA mandatory spot.

Known for his 93% knockout rate, Dorticos carries real power. Both of his losses — to Mairis Briedis and Murat Gassiev — came against other top-level punchers in tough battles. Ramirez, for all his skill and size, isn’t known for one-shot power, which could work in Dorticos’ favour if he can drag the fight into a shootout.

“I have a lot of respect for Cuban fighters,” Ramirez said. “They always possess a lot of skills and are difficult fighters to deal with.”

Ramirez vs. Paul? It’s Not Just Talk

With Jake Paul fighting on the same card, the noise around a potential Ramirez-Paul fight is growing louder. Ramirez hasn’t dismissed it — in fact, he’s leaning in.

“I think there is a chance of a possible world title fight in the future against Paul,” he said. “He mentioned that he was ‘ready’… I do believe he’s a man of his words.”

Paul might be the circus act, but Ramirez isn’t underestimating the commercial side of boxing. He wants belts, but if Paul comes calling — he’ll answer.

Cultural Pride in the Spotlight

Ramirez also acknowledged the significance of sharing a card with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., whose father remains a legend in Mexican boxing.

“His father is one of my favorite fighters of all time,” Ramirez said. “We’re both from Sinaloa and have a lot of pride in our culture and country.”

This fight marks another chance for Ramirez to represent Mexico at the top level, while adding another name to a résumé that’s growing with each win.

Final Word

Ramirez is favoured — younger, sharper, and carrying momentum — but Dorticos brings the kind of power that can end a fight with one clean shot. If Ramirez wants to keep his titles and line up unification or a money fight with Paul, he’ll need to stay smart and avoid the war Dorticos thrives in.

Zurdo has bigger plans. Dorticos has one last chance. Someone’s leaving Anaheim with a broken path.
