The 2025 AMA National Motocross Championship reached the halfway point of the 11-round 2025 AMA National Motocross Championship at the Red Bud round. It was impressive for Jett Lawrence since he fell early in the second moto and came from 18th to first, winning his sixth straight 450 National to extend his points lead to 51 points over his brother Hunter.

Eli Tomac moved into third place in the first moto before his Star Yamaha YZ450F started steaming and eventually died (dropping him back to 37th place). In the second moto Tomac finished 7th (after Star Yamaha reportedly put new engines in Tomac’s, Webb’s, Hampshire’s and Deegan’s machines). There were impressive rides by R.J. Hampshire, who finished 4th overall and Chase Sexton, who hasn’t raced since his crash at Pala. Chase went 5-4 for fifth.

In the 250 class it was Jo Shimoda’s day as he got the holeshot in moto one and proceeded to battle with Tom Vialle until taking command of the lead from Vialle at the 20-minute mark.

Where was Haiden Deegan? Back in 14th place in moto one, but he did manage to get second behind Shimoda in moto two and his 14-2 score was good enough for fifth overall. Jalek Swoll (Tri) , Michael Mosiman (Yam) and Danish rider Mikkel Haarup all finished in front of Deegan.

The strangest crash of the day was in the second 250 moto, when the Red Bud track crew over-watered a jump face and Jordan Smith’s Triumph, flew off the track and straight into the cables that were holding an inflatable arch. Smith got tangle up in them and ended up with a 9-22 day.
