The Minnesota Timberwolves are bringing back guard Tristen Newton on a two-way deal, league sources told HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

Newton officially signed his two-way qualifying offer, ensuring his return to the Timberwolves for the 2025–26 season.

The 24-year-old guard was claimed off waivers by Minnesota in January after being waived by the Indiana Pacers just six months after the 2024 NBA Draft.

Despite limited NBA minutes—just eight games combined for Indiana and Minnesota—Newton showed significant promise in the G League.

He averaged 16.5 points, 6.7 assists, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game across 24 appearances last season, splitting time between the Iowa Wolves and Indiana Mad Ants.

Newton posted four double-doubles and two triple-doubles during the campaign while logging 35.7 minutes per game.

Newton also turned heads during the 2025 NBA Summer League, averaging 9.2 points on 41.9% shooting and 47.6% from three-point range in five games.

His improved perimeter accuracy and ability to run an offense position him as a development priority for Minnesota’s coaching staff.

Originally selected 49th overall by Indiana in the 2024 Draft, Newton signed a two-way deal in July before being cut midway through the season.

Minnesota claimed him on January 3 and maintained his two-way designation through the end of the 2024–25 regular season.

He averaged 0.4 points in 2.0 minutes per game across his NBA appearances, but his rebounding and defense at the G League level have kept him on the radar.

Two-way players can spend up to 50 games with their NBA team, giving Newton the opportunity to build on his developmental progress if called upon.
