DeMarcus Cousins believes his contributions in Sacramento should be honored in the rafters.

Speaking on the STRAIGHT GAME PODCAST, the four-time All-Star said he put in the necessary work during his six-and-a-half seasons with the Kings to warrant jersey retirement.

“Obviously it would be an honor,” Cousins said, via HoopsHype. “That was something that I definitely wanted and strived for… I think I earned my stripes.”

The 6-foot-10 center averaged 21.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 3 assists over 470 games in Sacramento from 2010 to 2017. He was named to three All-Star teams and two All-NBA Second Teams during that span.

Cousins was traded to the Pelicans in February 2017, shortly after participating in that year’s All-Star Game. At the time, he ranked third in franchise history in total rebounds and fifth in points.

His most dominant stretch came between 2014 and 2017, when he averaged 25.2 points and 11.9 boards per game across three seasons.

“I feel like I did all the right things while I was in that jersey,” Cousins said. “As far as All-Stars, as far as All-NBA selections, numbers, gold medals… I think I did what needed to be done to join the others up in the rafters.”

The Kings have retired 11 jerseys in franchise history, including those of Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Peja Stojaković, and Bibby’s No. 10.

While his career was slowed by injuries after leaving Sacramento, the former No. 5 overall pick left a lasting mark on the franchise. He led the Kings in scoring for six consecutive seasons and ranks among the team’s all-time leaders in PER, rebounds, and usage rate.

“It’s like you said, it’s a political thing,” Cousins told Bibby. “But as far as the work being done, I think I did my part.”
