Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayBenn’s trainer admits Garcia would enter as the favorite but believes a full camp could change the fight
Tony Sims believes Conor Benn would enter a fight against Ryan Garcia as a clear underdog but still sees a real path to victory if the matchup is finalized later this year. The veteran trainer says Benn would benefit from a full training camp and more preparation time after difficult circumstances surrounded the Regis Prograis fight.
Garcia’s size, speed, and recent win over Devin Haney have many viewing Benn as a clear underdog going into the fight.
“Ryan Garcia is a great fighter, and he’s got a win over Devin Haney, and he’s been in with some big fighters,” said Sims to Sky Sports. “Obviously, Conor Benn’s going to be a massive underdog going into that fight.”
The comments from Sims came while discussing Benn’s future and the ongoing negotiations for a fight with WBC welterweight champion Garcia.
“They’re both really big names. Ryan in America and Conor Benn over in the UK. They’re massive names, and it’s a fight that everyone’s going to want to tune into,” said Sims.
Tony believes Benn’s performance against Regis Prograis came under difficult circumstances because of the short preparation time and weight cut after back-to-back fights against Chris Eubank Jr.
“We had six weeks to get the weight down,” Sims said. “He hasn’t fought a southpaw since 2022. We didn’t really have that much time to get ready for that fight.”
“If this fight gets made with Garcia, you’re going to have plenty of time to make the weight, plenty of time to work out the sparring partners and the tactics for the fight. I believe Conor’s got a great chance of winning the belt.”
