MMA legend Tony Ferguson has spoken about losing his mother prior to defeating Mahmoud Sebie last weekend.
As we know, the mixed martial arts career of Tony Ferguson ended pretty badly off the back of a generational losing streak in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. However, since he’s left the UFC, Tony has been able to bounce back in the world of boxing.
Tony Ferguson’s striking has always been one of his strongest attributes and he has been able to showcase that on a handful of occasions, including in a win over the aforementioned Mahmoud Sebie as part of last week’s Misfits Boxing card.
In an interview after the fight, Tony Ferguson opened up on his personal struggles as of late.
Tony Ferguson on losing his mother
“I was nervous as sh*t,” Ferguson told Fred Talks Fighting. “This whole week was different compared to any of the fights I’ve had in the UFC, MMA, boxing, whatever it is. My mom has always been there physically, and this time it was a little different, but I didn’t feel any void because I felt the energy.”
“Why do you think the one that birthed you is no longer in your life, the one that gives you advice and all these things,” Ferguson said. “You have to remember exactly what the good stuff was. I’m not saying I was in a dream state. We talk about getting up this morning and doing everything right and kept calm. I have to work on getting that first round out in the back so when I’m out there I’m not in a dream state. I know exactly what we were going to do: weather the storm. He was going to come out and blow his wad, and we capitalized on that.”
