According to Spanish outlet Encestando, Shengelia has decided to leave the Catalan club and reunite with former Barcelona head coach Xavi Pascual, who is also heading to Dubai.
The report states that the 35-year-old will pay €900,000 to buy out the remainder of his contract in order to complete the move and become part of Dubai’s ambitious project, which is targeting at least a EuroLeague Final Four appearance.
Despite his age, Shengelia remains one of Europe’s premier power forwards and had reportedly attracted interest from several other top clubs.
His relationship with Pascual is believed to have played a significant role in the decision, as the two developed a strong understanding during their time together at Barcelona.
