Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe empowered hosts face Netherlands, Sweden and Egypt in Pool A
Thailand will welcome the world to its iconic cities this August as they prepare to compete at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship. It will be the first time the event is held in Southeast Asia, and a defining moment for a country that has become a stronghold for volleyball in the region.
The tournament runs from 22 August to 7 September and brings together 32 national teams across four cities: Bangkok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chiang Mai and Phuket.
The hosts headline Pool A alongside the Netherlands, Sweden and Egypt, with all group matches taking place in Bangkok. The team opens against Egypt on 22 August, then face Sweden on 24 August and the Netherlands on 26 August at Huamark Indoor Stadium in the Thai capital.
Thailand are no strangers to the World Championship. The 2025 edition marks their seventh appearance, having first qualified in 1998. Their best result to date has been 13th place, achieved four times, most recently in 2022. That campaign included a milestone win over the Dominican Republic – the first time Thailand had defeated the Caribbean side at a major event.
Over the years, Thailand have become one of Asia’s most consistent teams on the international stage. Their style of play sets them apart – a fast, dynamic and technically sound approach that focuses on mobility, timing and precision. This has allowed them to compete effectively against taller, more physically dominant teams. Their team spirit, cohesion and perseverance are widely admired.
Key players such as setter Pornpun Guedpard and hitters Ajcharaporn Kongyot and Chatchu-on Moksri, Pimpichaya Kokram, middles Hattaya Bamrungsuk and Thatdao Nuekjang and libero Piyanut Pannoy form the backbone of the squad. The core group has remained stable across multiple seasons, building the chemistry and experience needed to perform at the highest level.
Their preparation for the 2025 edition has been reinforced through the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment programme. Since 2023, the Thailand Volleyball Association has received $84,000 in targeted coaching support for the women’s national team. The support has helped strengthen long-term systems and ensure consistent training environments ahead of major events.
Thai supporters show their pride from the stands during the match.
Playing at home adds an important layer of opportunity. Thai fans are among the most passionate in international volleyball, and their support is expected to create a powerful home atmosphere. Bangkok will also host the knockout stages and the final, giving the Thai team a unique chance to go deep into the tournament in front of their own crowd.
This year’s event also highlights Thailand’s growing capacity to stage global events. With government support, upgraded venues and strong corporate partnerships, the World Championship is expected to leave a lasting impact on sport development and fan engagement in the country.
With the home crowd behind them and support through the Volleyball Empowerment programme, Thailand will look to play their game, rely on their experience, and make the most of a rare opportunity to compete in the biggest volleyball event they’ve ever hosted.
