(1)  Sag scale. MXA uses the Motool digital sag scale to quickly check sag at the track, but at $199.99, it’s a little pricey for this list. The Motion Pro foldable sag measuring stick works great, and it’s $45.99. Or, you can save even more and buy a simple tape measure. Regularly checking your sag is crucial for ensuring your suspension is set up properly. Any time you consult an MXA test rider or your suspension tech for advice, the first question will be, “What’s your sag?”

(2) Grip tape. Riding dirt bikes is fun—until you’re worn out after just two laps. Depending on where it’s placed, grip tape can be hard on your pants and boots, but there is a reason it’s used by almost every top pro in the paddock. Grip tape allows you to hold onto your bike with your legs, which helps you maintain proper body position and enables you to ride faster and longer. MXA orders Black Diamond’s Longboard grip tape in bulk from Amazon. It’s $74.95 for a 10-inch by 5-foot roll, which lasts forever.

(3) Rubber cable ties. The KTM/Husky/GasGas bikes come stock with rubber cable ties on the handlebars, which neatly and securely hold your electric starter and kill-switch wires. The Japanese brands don’t use these trick rubber cable ties. Zip-ties can damage wires, and they don’t look as clean. Nihilo Concepts sells a rubber cable tie kit for $11.99 for riders who are particular about the minor details.

(4) Armor Vision lens protector. The Europeans are cracking down on tear-offs, thus Armor Vision was born out of necessity. Just like the screen protector you put on your iPhone, the Armor Vision film protects your lenses against roost and scratches. Dirt falls off the film more easily, and it allows you to wipe your lens while you’re riding without worrying about scratching the lens. It costs $28.99 for a three-pack of the largest 62mm films.

(5) Maxima MPPL. MXA test riders use Maxima’s multi-purpose penetrant lube after every bike wash. We spray it on the footpeg springs, chain (before lubing), shock preload adjuster, the pipe (to prevent rust), and sometimes on the engine to keep it nice and clean. A can of MPPL goes for $10.99, and it works like WD-40. It inhibits rust, displaces water and moisture, and ensures all hinges stay working properly.

(6) Hose bender. Having an easygoing experience in the pits will help you ride better on the track, which is why this list includes a few toolbox accessories as well. The MXA test riders have a Fire Power hose bender on every gas can in our pits. It’s pre-bent to make sure you can easily fill up your ride for just $6.95.

Works Connection’s Yamaha fork adjusters aren’t a necessity, but they’re nice.

(7) Fork adjuster. There are a few brands that come with adjustable-by-hand compression clickers on the forks, but the KYB adjusters on the Yamaha YZ250F and YZ450F get in the way of the air-bleed screw, and they can be hard to turn. Works Connection makes a replacement that doesn’t block the bleed screw and is easier to get your fingers on for $39.95.

(8) Veo Strip. Do you hate it when sweat gets into your goggles and splashes on the inside of your lenses? Veo Strip makes one-time-use silicone sweat gutters that you stick to your forehead between the brim of your helmet and the top of your goggle foam. The strip reroutes the sweat, improving vision on hot days. It costs $34.99 for a pack of 30 sweat strips.

(9) Magnetic bolt tray. Dropping a bolt in the dirt or grass mid-repair is frustrating and time-consuming. A magnetic bolt tray keeps all your fasteners in one place, whether you’re working in the pits or the garage. You don’t always need to spend big money to make your day at the track better. Sometimes it’s the inexpensive little things that offer the most convenience. The magnetic bolt tray lets you focus on riding rather than searching for lost bolts.

(10) Bolt kit. Speaking of bolts, we are always digging into our Bolt Motorcycle Hardware track packs to keep our test bikes in one piece. Thankfully, they have track packs for each major OEM for just $21.99, and they’re easy to carry in your truck or van.
