Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayStan Dubois appeared more interested in a future fight with Moses Itauma than another clash with Oleksandr Usyk after his son’s dramatic win over Fabio Wardley on Saturday night in Manchester.
Moments after Daniel Dubois stopped Wardley in the 11th round to capture the WBO heavyweight title, Stan Dubois was asked whether he wanted to see his son face Usyk again.
Instead, he quickly pointed toward #1 WBO-ranked Itauma.
“I Want To See Him Fight This Giant”
“No, I want to see him fight this giant,” Stan Dubois said to Secondsout while laughing after being asked about a possible Usyk rematch.
Itauma is currently viewed as one of the fastest-rising heavyweights in boxing and is expected to remain heavily involved in the WBO title picture moving forward.
Stan Dubois also praised his son’s performance against Wardley after Daniel recovered from two early knockdowns before rallying for the stoppage victory.
“Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. He showed what he was made of tonight and he delivered,” Stan Dubois said.
During the interview, Stan was also asked whether he believed the referee should have stopped the fight earlier, as Wardley absorbed heavy punishment late.
“I Thought So”
“I thought so, but they were hoping that he would come back from the dead, weren’t they?” Stan Dubois said.
Daniel Dubois regained a heavyweight world title with the victory and now enters a crowded heavyweight picture featuring Usyk, Itauma, and several other contenders expected to return during the coming months.
The comments quickly drew attention because Itauma has already been identified by WBO president Gustavo Olivieri as the mandatory challenger for Dubois’ heavyweight title following Saturday’s victory over Wardley.
Itauma is viewed as one of boxing’s fastest-rising young heavyweights after a series of knockout wins, potentially setting up a major all-British title fight in the future.
