Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayRyan Garcia has clarified recent comments involving Naoya Inoue after some boxing fans questioned remarks he made while discussing the Japanese superstar.
Garcia took to social media to explain that he was not challenging Inoue or suggesting he wanted to spar him. Instead, the WBC welterweight champion said he was expressing admiration for one of boxing’s most accomplished fighters.
“I meant no disrespect to Inoue. I have him as #1 p4p,” Ryan Garcia said on X.
“I said I would like to train with him – not spar lol people like to be so negative.”
Ryan’s comments came after a discussion online regarding his interest in working with Inoue. The unbeaten Japanese star is widely regarded as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport and currently holds multiple world titles at junior featherweight.
Garcia continued his praise of Inoue while addressing criticism from fans.
“I think he’s a great fighter – ima fighter. I have respect for him,” said Ryan.
The 27-year-old also pointed to his own accomplishments, noting that he remains a world champion and is preparing for a major title defense later this year.
“My preparation for my last fight should prove I’m serious,” Ryan said. “The hate can come all you want I’m still a WORLD CHAMPION and will be defending against the number 1 contender. You have to respect that.”
Garcia is expected to defend his WBC welterweight title against Conor Benn on September 12 in Las Vegas, one of the most anticipated fights currently on the boxing calendar.
