Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDavid Benavidez has disputed Canelo Alvarez’s claim that he can no longer make 175 pounds for a potential fight.
The comments were a response to Canelo’s recent assertion that Benavidez has become too big to comfortably return to 175 pounds. Benavidez disagrees.
“I can still be semi-complete at 175. He fought like two or three times there. If he wants to make the fight there, I can lose that weight,” Benavidez said during a press conference when asked about Canelo’s comments.
“He is saying it’s impossible, that I can’t go down. I can go down, and if they want that fight, I am 100% ready to give this fight.”
The comments come after Canelo recently stated that Benavidez is no longer the same fighter who campaigned at super middleweight and argued that the former WBC interim champion has naturally grown into a much bigger man.
Benavidez spent years pursuing a fight with Alvarez while competing at 168 pounds. When the matchup failed to materialize, he moved up to light heavyweight, where he captured a world title before stepping up again to cruiserweight and defeating Ramirez to unify belts.
Despite his success in heavier divisions, Benavidez insists that weight would not prevent him from facing Canelo if an agreement could be reached.
“I can go down, and if they want that fight, I am 100% ready to give this fight,” said Benavidez.
The long-discussed showdown remains one of boxing’s biggest unanswered questions. For now, Canelo is focused on his September 12 challenge against Christian Mbilli, while Benavidez continues to explore options following his cruiserweight title-winning performance over Ramirez.
