O’Shaquie Foster believes his victory over Raymond Ford has moved a potential fight with Shakur Stevenson closer to reality. Hours after retaining his WBC super featherweight title in Houston, Foster said he is ready to face Stevenson at either 135 or 140 pounds.
“I mean, I don’t know. He looked like he would, but when I was looking in his face, he kind of looked timid. So, you know, I don’t know if he was doing it for a show or not, but as y’all can see, I’m very serious about making that fight,” Foster said.
The comments came after Foster walked toward Stevenson following his victory over Ford. Stevenson had watched the fight from ringside as Foster gradually took control during the second half of the contest before winning a majority decision.
Foster said he had predicted the outcome beforehand.
“I told him I was going to do what I was going to do to his little man’s,” Foster said.
The WBC super featherweight champion believes the result has increased interest in a fight between himself and Stevenson.
“The world going to ask for it now. They feel like he’s the lower version of Shakur. I showed what I could do to him. So, let’s see what Shakur gonna do.”
Stevenson later responded on social media, calling for the fight and dismissing any suggestion that weight would be an issue between them.
Foster said he is willing to meet Stevenson wherever necessary to make the bout happen.
“I told him we can do it at 40, we can do it at 35, whichever one he want to do,” Foster said. “That’s a big fight. We can do it right here in Houston. I feel like the world want to see it now. So, we just got to wait and see.”
For months, Foster had publicly called for a fight with Stevenson without getting much of a response. Saturday night’s confrontation and the exchanges that followed afterward represented the most direct public back-and-forth between the two fighters to date.
Whether the fight gets made remains unclear, but Foster left little doubt about the matchup he wants next.
