Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayBill Haney has outlined an ambitious list of potential opponents for Devin Haney, naming Jaron “Boots” Ennis, Sebastian Fundora, and Vergil Ortiz Jr. as fighters he would like to see his son face in the future.
The comments quickly gained traction among fans because several of the names most frequently linked to Haney in recent months were not mentioned.
“We want the biggest fights. Boots Ennis, Sebastian Fundora, Vergil Ortiz. Those are the kinds of fights Devin wants,” said Bill Haney to Cigar Talk.
Haney’s remarks came as Devin continues his reign as WBO welterweight champion following his victory over Brian Norman Jr. last November. While much of the recent discussion has centered on possible matchups with Shakur Stevenson, Conor Benn, Ryan Garcia, and Keyshawn Davis, Bill instead focused on a trio of fighters many consider among the toughest challenges in and around the welterweight division.
Fundora currently competes at junior middleweight, while Ortiz has also campaigned at 154 pounds. Ennis, meanwhile, has long been viewed as one of the division’s most dangerous fighters and has frequently appeared on pound-for-pound lists.
The comments sparked debate among fans on social media. Some praised the willingness to pursue high-risk fights, while others questioned why Stevenson was left off the list after publicly calling for a showdown with Haney.
Weight has remained a sticking point between Haney and Stevenson. Stevenson has previously suggested meeting at 144 pounds, while Team Haney has maintained that any fight would need to take place at the full welterweight limit of 147.
Bill Haney appears focused on an entirely different group of opponents. Whether any of those fights can be made remains to be seen, but Ennis, Fundora, and Ortiz were the three names that stood out when he discussed Devin’s future plans.
