Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayChris Billam-Smith defended home turf on Saturday night, stopping Ryan Rozicki after seven hard rounds in the cruiserweight main event at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, Dorset.
The bout headlined Zuffa Boxing’s first event in the United Kingdom and delivered plenty of action from the opening bell.
Rozicki pressed forward throughout the contest and repeatedly looked to force exchanges at close range. The Canadian’s aggressive approach helped create a physical fight that featured clinches, head clashes and plenty of trading on the inside.
As the rounds passed, visible damage began to accumulate on Rozicki. Cuts opened around both eyes while Billam-Smith continued to work behind steady combinations and a busy output.
Both fighters had moments during the fight, which remained physical throughout the opening seven rounds.
By Round 7, the former WBO cruiserweight champion was landing regularly and forcing Rozicki to absorb sustained punishment. After another difficult round, Rozicki was unable to continue, bringing the fight to an end before the start of the eighth.
The official result was a seventh-round technical knockout victory for Billam-Smith, improving his record to 22-2 with 14 knockouts.
For Rozicki, the loss came after a determined effort in which he remained on the front foot for much of the contest despite dealing with cuts and heavy resistance from the hometown favorite.
Tonight’s win gives Billam-Smith another notable win at cruiserweight and keeps him firmly in the mix for bigger fights as he continues pursuing another world title opportunity.
