Sean O’Malley thinks a rematch with Petr Yan is inevitable, and he’s willing to wait for it.

O’Malley is well aware that a trilogy bout between Yan and Merab Dvalishvili for the UFC Bantamweight Championship is likely. “No Mercy” and “The Machine” are tied at 1-1 with Yan getting the most recent victory to reclaim the 135-pound gold. Both men have dealt with injuries since that time with Yan’s recovery process for a back procedure being the main holdup.

Even if the trilogy does take place, the “Suga” show is willing to wait. He told MMAFighting.com that there’s a high chance he gets another title fight if Yan were to defeat Dvalishvili a second time.

“Petr’s the champ,“ O’Malley said. “If I don’t get that next, I wait. If Petr beats Merab, me vs. Petr. How do you not make that fight?”

O’Malley has long insisted that a second bout with Yan would be huge for the bantamweight division, and he has since doubled down.

“Absolutely [it’s the biggest fight in bantamweight history],” O’Malley said. “I would love to hear someone’s argument. I think me vs. Chito is the biggest fight as of now. As far as numbers, gate, that was the biggest bantamweight fight in history. I think me vs. Petr would beat that.”

Back in Oct. 2022, O’Malley defeated Yan via split decision, which was a result highly debated by fight fans at the time. The win earned O’Malley a bantamweight title shot against Aljamain Sterling, which the “Suga” show took full advantage of by scoring a second-round TKO to win UFC gold.

Following a successful title defense against Marlon “Chito” Vera, O’Malley would lose the championship to Dvalishvili. An attempt to win the title back from “The Machine” resulted in a third-round submission defeat. O’Malley has since rebounded with a unanimous decision win over Song Yadong, and more recently, a TKO finish over Aiemann Zahabi in the second stanza.
