Teofimo Lopez is now on Ryan Garcia’s radar after the destruction of Conor Benn this past Saturday.
Garcia put the WBC welterweight title at stake against Benn inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It was Benn’s first title fight and for many fans and experts, it wasn’t hard to tell. Benn ran into Garcia’s right hand in the second round and was dropped for it. While Benn beat the count, Garcia swarmed with a barrage of punches to finish the fight.
It was a quick and emphatic win for “KingRy,” who told reporters after the event that he now wants a title unification bout against Lopez, who holds the WBA gold (h/t MMAJunkie).
“I want to unify against Teofimo,” Garcia said. “I think that’s the move. It’s a huge fight. Teo is an entertaining dude, and it’s going to be one hell of a buildup. He’s a good fighter, too. Let’s run it.”
Garcia has won two straight bouts after suffering an upset loss to Rolly Romero back in May 2025. He bounced back to capture the WBC welterweight title against Barrios. Saturday’s win over Benn is Garcia’s first finish since late 2023.
Lopez recently defeated Romero via majority decision to win the WBA title. “The Takeover” appeared in disguise during the final pre-fight presser for Garcia vs. Benn, which sets the stage for a potential showdown with “KingRy.” As Garcia mentioned, the prefight build figures to be eventful if both sides can reach a bout agreement. It appears both Garcia and Lopez are pushing for the fight, so the usual boxing politics might not get in the way of this one becoming a reality.
Is Ryan Garcia vs. Teofimo Lopez the next fight to make, or would you rather see “KingRy” in a rematch with Devin Haney? Join in on the conversation in the comments below.
