“I was very, very impressed [with White and Zuffa],” Ryan said. “They did one of the best jobs with coordinating things. I love their process. I know I sound like I’m glazing, but they were on top of everything: the media, how they promote… let’s just say I’m very impressed.”

That sounds like a fighter already imagining himself on the other side. Ryan’s second-round destruction of Benn showed why Zuffa should want him. He attracts attention without needing months of manufactured promotion, and his left hook and hand speed give casual viewers the violent finishes they remember.

The mistake would be believing Ryan is ready for every elite fighter from 147 through 154 pounds. Beating Benn did not prove that. Benn was badly depleted at welterweight and had never defeated a world-class opponent.

Terence Crawford, Jaron Ennis, Sebastian Fundora, Israil Madrimov and Vergil Ortiz Jr. represent an entirely different level. Putting Ryan against one of them would risk destroying the attraction Zuffa had just purchased.

White needs to handle him like a valuable action star, not a pound-for-pound experiment. A unification fight with Teofimo Lopez makes commercial sense because Teofimo is smaller, defensively vulnerable, and willing to trade. Devin Haney and Liam Paro would also provide recognizable opposition without bringing the same physical danger as the leading junior middleweights.

Garcia does not need to prove he is the best boxer alive to become Zuffa’s main attraction. He needs entertaining fights against opponents carefully selected to highlight his speed, left hook, and unpredictable personality.

White overestimated Benn because he confused toughness and family recognition with elite ability. Ryan brings something Benn never had: an enormous built-in following and genuine fight-changing power.

If Zuffa signs him and resists the urge to feed him to Crawford, Ennis, or Ortiz, Ryan can plant its flag in boxing. If White chases credibility too quickly, that flag may not stay upright for long.
