Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayRichard Torrez Jr. says a future fight against fellow American heavyweight Jared Anderson would not be off limits despite the longtime friendship between the two unbeaten contenders.
Torrez Jr discussed Anderson during an interview this week while preparing for his May 23 IBF heavyweight eliminator against Frank Sanchez in Egypt.
“Jared and I, we’ve known each other since we were 15. That was the first time we went to Russia together, and we were sparring partners throughout the years,” said Torrez Jr. on the Mr. Versace podcast at Ring Magazine.
“He’s a brother to me.
“I remember talking to Jared when we were amateurs about it a little bit. If one of us says, ‘Let’s fight,’ the other one’s never scared to fight.
“But until then, we’re just building each other.
“I’m a major fan of him. He’s a strong supporter of me as well.
“Why not have multiple heavyweights on top from America? You see the UK doing it right now. I want to bring back the titles to America, and I think Jerry and I have a strong opportunity to do that.”
Torrez also spoke about the dangers fighters face after growing up around former boxers from earlier eras.
“My dad was an 80s fighter, and they’re punch drunk, man,” said Torrez.
“You go to some of these boxing reunions, and it’s scary a little bit sometimes. That’s the side of boxing people don’t really talk about a lot.”
The unbeaten Torrez enters the Sanchez fight with a 13-0 record and 11 knockouts. Anderson suffered the first loss of his career in August 2024 against Martin Bakole but remains one of the more highly regarded American heavyweights in the division.
Torrez also recently repeated his interest in eventually fighting unbeaten British heavyweight Moses Itauma, calling the matchup a potential future trilogy.
