Chaves, 25, improved to 22-0 with 19 knockouts when he stopped Miguel Madueño in the third round on April 25 in Las Vegas. The victory marked his first fight in the United States and his first appearance since signing with Matchroom Boxing earlier this year.
The Argentine southpaw has quickly climbed into world title contention and is currently ranked No. 2 by the WBO and No. 6 by the IBF at lightweight. A victory over Pauldo would further strengthen his position near the top of the division.
Pauldo, 31, enters the reported matchup with a 20-2 record and is ranked No. 6 by the WBC. The American contender has remained active in the lightweight rankings and would represent another step up in competition for Chaves as he continues his push toward a world title opportunity.
While no official announcement has been made, the matchup would pit two ranked contenders against one another at a time when the lightweight division remains crowded with title hopefuls.
Chaves generated considerable attention with his knockout victory over Madueño, and a fight with Pauldo would provide an opportunity to build on that momentum while moving closer to a shot at one of the division’s major titles.
