As Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford continue their press tour for their September 13 showdown, both fighters appeared in New York alongside Dana White and Turki Alalshikh (with a guest appearance from Max Kellerman) to continue discussing their impending battle while fielding questions from those in attendance.

So when Crawford was asked about the respectful nature of their press events, including their interview with Piers Morgan, Crawford had this to say.

“Well, listen. I’m going to tell ya’ll like this, I respect Canelo just like I respect every one of my other opponents before Canelo. But once it gets close to that time, it’s time to go to work, and when we come to work, ya’ll knows what comes after that.”

Canelo would later be asked about being the face of boxing in Mexico and whether a win over Crawford will stamp him as the greatest champion in Mexican history.

“I don’t know. Let’s see when I retire where I’m going to be in the list,” Canelo said. “But for sure I will beat Terence Crawford no matter what. I don’t like at ‘I’m going to be the greatest Mexican ever,’ I don’t say that. I think my numbers is going to talk when I retire.”

Crawford was then asked about Alalshikh having a KO bonus to the winner in order to encourage them to engage more, and whether his best path to victory would be to box on the outside using a lot of movement — to which Canelo would quickly interject to encourage Alalshikh to set up a small ring if he wants action.

“The only running that I’m going to be doing is running upside his head,” Crawford said. “And I can assure you that. Facts. And he got a big head, too.”

During the face off between the fighters Crawford would make it clear that he’s not at all intimated by Canelo walking right into him and causing Canelo to push back before security intervened.
