O’Shaquie Foster believes a win over Raymond Ford could increase calls for a fight against Shakur Stevenson, but he says the former lightweight champion has already made his position clear.

Foster will defend his WBC super featherweight title against Ford on Saturday night in Houston. Stevenson is expected to attend the event in support of Ford, but Foster remains skeptical that a fight between them will ever happen.

“It’s all on him. Everybody knows I’m willing to fight anybody. They know I’m willing to go anywhere and willing to be across the ring from anybody. But I think with this fight coming up [against Ford], that’s gonna put the pressure on [Stevenson]. I’m not sure, though. He not trying to fight me. He done said it plenty of times. He said he would rather fight me outside the ring. That don’t make no sense, neither,” said O’Shaquie to The Ring.

“[Stevenson] came to my inbox and said he never gonna fight me. But the world gonna call for it and I feel like after this fight right here, they gonna be asking for it, and it’s gonna be on him.”

Foster made the comments while discussing a potential future showdown with Shakur. The Newark, New Jersey native Shakur moved up to 140 last January and defeated Teofimo Lopez to win the WBO light welterweight title.  Stevenson has talked about possibly moving back down to 135 to fight for a belt against IBF champion Raymond Muratalla.

Fosteer views Saturday night’s title defense against Ford as another opportunity to strengthen his case for one of the biggest fights available around the lower weight divisions.

Whether Shakur agrees remains to be seen, but Foster says any future demand for the fight will ultimately put the decision in his rival’s hands.
