Newcastle United have entered talks to sign Galatasaray star Baris Alper Yilmaz, with the PIF attempting to bring in another forward before the September 1st transfer deadline.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has hinted there could be a busy few days ahead for Newcastle, saying: "I think there are chances of movements at Newcastle, and I expect them to get a new striker for sure."

Indeed, signing a new centre-forward may be particularly important, with it being revealed that Nick Woltemade has informed the club he wants to leave before the deadline on Tuesday, after spending just one year at St. James' Park.

Lille star Matias Fernandez-Pardo is in the Magpies' sights as a potential replacement for Woltemade, but they may not stop there, and it has emerged that Yilmaz is also of interest, after making a name for himself in Turkey.

Selcuk Inan, Galatasaray's former assistant coach, is clearly a big fan of the Turkey international, as he has backed him to succeed in the Premier League and at some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Inan said: "Baris Alper Yilmaz, I think, can play very easily in many teams in the Premier League right now. He is a very special player. We worked hard with him.

"If Baris Alper improves himself in the end product department, he can easily play for the best clubs in the world such as Barcelona, ​​Real Madrid, Liverpool and Arsenal."

Not only that, but Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has admitted the left-winger, who is also capable of playing at striker, gave him a very tough time at Euro 2024, saying: "Baris Alper Yilmaz was running constantly. He was running elusive. It was difficult for every defender. He made it very hard for us. He couldn't score a goal though. If we were to describe him in any way, he is a really important player."

With the PIF looking to make a splash in the transfer market before the rapidly approaching deadline, they have now set out to secure the 26-year-old's signature.

According to a report from Fotospor (via Sport Witness), Newcastle have opened talks to sign Yilmaz, who was valued at €50m (£43m) by Galatasaray earlier this summer, but they are now more hesitant to sanction a sale.

The Turkish side feel they won't have enough time to bring in an adequate replacement, which means they may not be willing to offload the 38-cap Turkey international, whose current contract is set to expire in 2028.

There is also interest from Everton, which could complicate matters further for Matthias Jaissle's side, as the Toffees have made an approach of their own.
