Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has spoken out on the future of Rodrygo Goes after leaving him as an unused substitute in last night’s game.

Los Blancos beat Osasuna 1-0 in their first La Liga fixture of the new season, and Rodrygo didn’t get any minutes during the match.

Naturally, this has attracted some interest, as the Brazil international’s future has been in some doubt all summer.

Arsenal remain interested in Rodrygo, as per Charles Watts in his exclusive CaughtOffside column, while he’s also been linked with Manchester City.

Xabi Alonso on Rodrygo situation as Fabrizio Romano reports on City interest

Fabrizio Romano has quoted Alonso as saying nothing is happening at the moment, as he addressed the situation after last night’s game…

“Rodrygo? Nothing is happening. I count on Rodrygo of course, it’s just a game. This was my decision,” Alonso is quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Romano also posted the following as he maintains that Man City have an interest in Rodrygo, even if it’s not currently advancing due to it also requiring the sale of Savinho…

??? Zero minutes again for Rodrygo tonight as he was unused sub against Osasuna.

What next for Rodrygo?

Rodrygo surely won’t be happy to stay at Real Madrid if he’s not going to play regularly, as he’s surely too good to just sit on the bench all season.

The 24-year-old could have a key role for clubs like Arsenal or Man City, so we’ll surely see some movement soon.

The Gunners in particular look in real need of an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli on that left-hand side, and Rodrygo seems like an ideal opportunity as he’ll surely be available on loan, at the very least.
