The Detroit Tigers tasted defeat for the fourth time in their last 6 games when they lost in the middle game of their series with the Royals on the road Tuesday night. They entered Wednesday’s matchup 21-25 and were 2nd in the AL Central, 2.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins for the division lead.

Tuesday night, the Tigers finished with 8 hits with Javier Baez (RBI) the lone player with two in the loss. They ended two of seven with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on the base in the contest. Eduardo Rodriguez (4-4) took the defeat when he permitted 4 runs (two earned) on 8 hits with 2 walks and 9 strikeouts over 5 innings of work.

Alex Faedo takes the mound for Detroit, logging his 4th start of the season in this series. Faedo comes in 0-2 with a 4.60 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, 1 walk and 12 strikeouts over 15 innings of work this year. He took the defeat in his last start Saturday on the road against the Washington Nationals.

Faedo threw 5 innings and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts in a game where his team lost 5-3. He was roughed up by the loss in loss career start against the White Sox, which came at home on June 15, 2022. He threw 3 innings, and allowed 7 runs on 9 hits with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in a game the Detroit Tigers lost in blowout fashion, 13-0.

Alex is 0-4 with a 5.61 ERA, a 1.545 WHIP, 13 walks and 30 strikeouts over 33.2 innings in 7 career starts at Comerica Park.

The Chicago White Sox won for the 6th time in their last 8 games when they evened their series against the Guardians on the road Tuesday night. They rose to 20-30 on the season and ranked 4th in the AL Central, 5.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins for the top spot entering Wednesday’s game.

On Tuesday night, the White Sox concluded with 8 hits with Luis Roberts Jr. the sole player with two in the contest. Yasmani Grandal hit his 4th homer of the season for Chicago in the win. Dylan Cease (3-3) earned the win on the mound when he threw 6 innings, and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Kendall Graveman manned the 9th, allowing no runs on 1 hit and 1 strikeout, for his 4th save of the season.

Lucas Giolito should take the mound for Chicago as he appears in his 11th start of the season in this series. Giolito is 3-3 with a 3.62 ERA, a 1.123 WHIP, 12 walks and 60 strikeouts over 59.2 innings of work this year. He earned the win in his last start, which was at home against Kansas City on Saturday. Lucas threw 6 innings, and permitted one run on 6 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts in the match Chicago won 5-1. In his last 3 starts, he is 2-1 with a 3.50 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, 3 walks and 19 strikeouts over 18 innings of work.

Giolito will make his 20th career start against the Detroit Tigers today. He is 6-6 with a 4.45 ERA, a 1.193 WHIP, 34 walks and 126 strikeouts over 109 innings of work against them. Giolito is 3-1 with a 3.72 ERA, a 1.293 WHIP, 11 walks and 46 strikeouts over 38.2 innings of action in 7 career starts at Comerica Park.

Alex Faedo has done a great job warding off baserunners but the challenge is, they still find ways to score. He’s conceded 5 homers in his 15 innings of work, which should cause worries for Detroit Tigers fans.

The White Sox passed him around in his sole career outing against them last year and Chicago apparently started to turn a corner after a horrible start to the season. Giolito has been strong, throwing up to 6 innings in 8 straight starts and permitted two runs or lower in 6 of those outings.

Detroit struggle at the plate this season, placing last in the AL in runs scored entering Wednesday. Giolito will keep them in check as the White Sox clinch the opener of this series.
