Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayDmitry Bivol’s successful title defense against Michael Eifert produced a statistic that has drawn attention from veteran boxing reporter Dan Rafael.
Following Bivol’s unanimous decision victory, Rafael highlighted CompuBox numbers that placed Eifert at the bottom of a category no fighter wants to lead.
“How pathetic was Eifert as Bivol’s mandatory challenger?” Rafael posted on social media.
Rafael then cited figures from CompuBox that illustrated just how little success Eifert had offensively during the 12-round fight.
“Eifert turned in the worst showing in the 41-year history of CompuBox. He landed only 12 of 349 punches (3 percent). That is the fewest landed punches ever landed in a 12-round fight it has tracked. In six rounds he landed no punches. His high mark was landing three punches in the second and third rounds.”
The numbers are difficult to ignore. Eifert averaged one landed punch per round over the course of the fight and failed to connect with a single punch in half of the contest.
Bivol controlled the action throughout and retained his light heavyweight titles without facing any serious resistance. Eifert entered the fight as a mandatory challenger, but the CompuBox totals have fueled criticism from fans who questioned whether he belonged in the ring with one of the sport’s leading champions.
The statistic also renewed debate about the mandatory challenger system. Bivol was required to face Eifert, yet the fight ended with a record that CompuBox says has never been seen in its 41 years of tracking punch statistics.
It was another successful title defense for Bivol. For Eifert, it became a night that landed him in the record books for the wrong reason.
